DIY Miter Saw Stand with Wheels for your DeWalt, Ryobi, Harbor Freight, Craftsman, or Milwaukee

If you have watched any of my DIY videos, you know that I have a Harbor Freight miter saw that I set on a custom plate over two sawhorses. For practicality, it works, but as I continue to improve my woodworking garage workspace, it was time to put a little tough and design work on creating a 𝐃𝐈𝐘 𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐰 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝. One that not only suits my needs but one that can easily be adapted to fit a DeWalt, Ryobi, Harbor Freight, Craftsman, or Milwaukee miter saw.

What is the objective of the DIY miter saw stand design? It has to be cheap, for starters. As many of you know, I am very budget-conscious, and most have some mobility, so it most have wheels. I like to build speakers and other projects where MDF is the material of choice. And don't matter how sophisticated your dust collection system is, MDF will make a mess. In my case, outside the shop where I can use the leave blower to disperse the dust is a better solution.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐚 𝐃𝐈𝐘 𝐌𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐚𝐰 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐬

The concept is quite simple. We need a miter saw stand to which we secure the miter saw. Ideally, it has to have wings on both the left and right to safely cut material longer than four feet. This is a concept often referred to as a miter saw station! It would be great if it had wheels to move it inside the shop and wheel it out like a dolly! However, that may be an issue with the wings! So, that means that the wings must fold away! Are you getting the vision?

To meet our budget, I will default to my favorite "el cheapo" 2X3 studs from Lowe's. Also, I will use some plywood cut-off I have, and these amount to about a half of a sanded 2X4 - .750 sheet. The barn hinges came from Harbor Freight as well as the 6-inch wheels. The basic cost of this miter saw stand with our option was about $50. That is pretty good, given the cost of tools and materials nowadays.

By basic, I mean a working miter saw stand. I will be adding some options, including two 36-inch T-slot tracks, two T-Track stoppers, and two adhesive-backed measuring tapes. These are not deal-breaker upgrades but will make a difference in the efficiency, and the accuracy of the material cut on the miter saw stand.

The entire build took about a day and a half, just because I started really late on day one, but without a doubt, this is a DIY project one can complete in a weekend.

Tips: Consider making the two front uprights about an inch loger than the rear. I had to extend the feet out too much, which did not work too well. Also, consider buying feet that have action. The metal feet I initially used were too slippery. I ended up cutting two small polypropylene pieces, drilling a .250 hole on them to fix a ¼-20 flat head bolt, and adding a rubber patch to the bottom of that!

Overall, I think that this 𝐃𝐈𝐘 𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐰 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 was a great success, and my only regret is not taking the time to build one sooner. My friends, this is JC, with the Cuban Redneck DY Channel on YouTub. I thank you for watching, and l look forward to seeing you next Friday with a new DIY project!
