Dogs love company and it's not natural for a dog to be alone. While dogs can be trained to be alone, if your best friend is a shelter dog, was not trained as a puppy or suffered a traumatic event, you'll want to manage the separation anxiety with the following natural approaches:

• Walk, run, play and really exercise your dog hard first thing in the morning - this is a must as dogs are born canine athletes and need FAR more exercise than you think. When a dog is too tired to care, it will sleep easy.
• Leave an item of your dirty washing with them for comfort. This makes them feel like your close and keeps them comforted until your return.
