In August last year, the Bank of Namibia launched a position paper in which it stated that it does not recognize cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, as illegal tender in Namibia.
The central bank is not likely to revise it's position soon, and in response to the growing use of virtual currencies, the bank has established an internal working group focused on exploring digital innovations and disruptive technologies further. Through this platform it plans to assess possible impacts cryptocurrencies might have on functions of the bank and the economy at large.
