The last two decades of the India-United States (US) strategic partnership have witnessed several
ups and downs. Recently, intense months-long stand-off over tariffs paralysed the relationship.
Nevertheless, the proponents of closer ties between New Delhi and Washington maintain that the
underlying rationale of the partnership endures. The US supports India’s rise as a major power and
encourages it to take on a greater role in ensuring security in the Indo-Pacific. The goal was recently
reaffirmed by the Donal Trump administration in its latest National Security Strategy document.

This webinar raises the following questions: What kinds of role does Washington envisage India
playing in the region? What does it believe is geopolitically feasible? Have its expectations evolved
after two decades of partnership? What tools of influence is it willing to use to draw India deeper
