We often describe students as unmotivated. What if that’s a misdiagnosis? What if anxiety, overload, and retreat are being mistaken for apathy?
In this video, I look at how generational advice, economic instability, and technologies promising comfort reshaped how young people relate to work, attention, and meaning.
Drawing on history and classroom experience, I explore how Generation X passed down well-intentioned advice without recognizing the anxiety embedded in it — and how that emotional terrain was later recognized and exploited by platforms built to capture attention.
This channel uses history to understand the present, especially how moral and emotional lessons are transmitted to students without ever being stated outright.
Part of a three-video series examining generational anxiety, disengagement, and the role of historical education in sustaining an informed and empathetic public.
