Thomas Helwys was one of the founders of the Baptist faith. Together with John Smyth, they fleed to the Nederlands to escape King James' wrath. There, in a small house on Baker's Street, these two christian believers, together with a dozen more men, established their creed and doctrine.
Later on, Thomas Helwys returned to England and stood in front of the King, presenting his book, "A Short Declaration of the Mistery of Iniquity", and argued that every individual ought to be free in choosing his own religious belief and that the King's men should be held responsible by the Law only for their civil duties, and not for their religion. The matters regarding the soul are to be judged only by God, Helwys stated.
This short feature presents this special story from Helwys' own point of view. He is emprisoned for his faith in the Newgate prison, the place in which he will also die, later on.
