According to a new World Bank report on poverty, in India, an additional 56 million (5.6 crore) have been pushed below the poverty line in the wake of the Covid pandemic. He also explains why India hasn’t updated its official poverty data for more than a decade and why the absolute number of people below the poverty line is rising.
