Professor Sujoy Kumar Guha has spent nearly 50 years developing RISUG, the world’s only reversible male contraceptive drug. RISUG has the potential to change birth control around the world: the one-time injection is minimally invasive, effective over 10 years, and has negligible side effects.
Despite successful clinical trials on over 500 humans, Guha still faces challenges. He’s up against the international pharma lobby and the $30 billion contraceptive market. The 84-year-old biomedical engineer-turned-doctor is now guiding the RISUG project through the last bureaucratic hurdles – but will he realize his dream and obtain final approval and a licence to manufacture the drug for the global market before his time runs out?
Even after half a century of work, Guha refuses to give up.
Every night, he goes for a jog to clear his mind and work through the next set of problems.
The Scientist Who Runs at Night explores Professor Guha's commitment and the challenges he has faced in his decades-long journey.
