Morning Meteorologist Ryan DePhillips has a look at the weather ahead. Milder-than-average morning temperatures are still once present with some passing clouds & occasional gusts of southwesterly winds for some mixing that dry air around, although higher humidity has returned in Southeast New Mexico. Air temperatures in the north are starting off mostly from around the teens to the 30s, except for the Northeast Highlands in the lower 40s for some, while elsewhere to the south, air temperatures are mostly ranging from the upper 20s to the lower 50s. Slightly warmer air for most will be in store today as way-above-normal high temperatures will once again set with stronger winds developing, pushing any showers that may form along the New Mexico-Texas state-line very quickly to the east. Areas from East New Mexico to the Pecos River Valley area will range from the upper 60s to the 80s from north to south from high to low elevation. Stronger southwesterly to west-southwesterly surface wind gusts up to at least 35-50 mph with some blowing dust and some reduced visibility will form. Stronger southwesterly winds aloft that are set to go up, over, and down the northeast-sloped mountain faces, will lead to the very mild process at the surface. Meanwhile, the northern higher elevations, which will eventually receive light rain activity with high-elevation snow, will range from the upper 40s to the 50s, while the northern valley floors to western and central areas will mostly range from the 60s to the low 80s. Fire weather chances will be higher today with the elevated to critical fire threat conditions in eastern areas especially. The ridge of high pressure, also responsible for the warming process, which has very briefly strengthened once again, will briefly break down a bit again, but it will continue to steer in some clouds. Temperatures will remain above average for fewer areas with the even bigger cooldown tomorrow, all on the tail-end of today's windier system with pockets of higher humidity, accompanied by some precipitation eventually, in northern to northeastern areas.
