In the history of the men's hockey World Cup, Pakistan are the most successful team with four titles to their name. Their first trophy came in the very first edition of the competition, which was hosted by Spain. But the side, who were dominating the hockey stratosphere had to wait till 1978 to win their next trophy.
But not a lot of people know that the Pakistan side that won that edition of the World Cup, actually helped hosts Argentina win the 1978 World Cup as well!
The orchestrator for Argentina then was their head coach Cesar Luis Menotti. The former head coach took notes from Pakistan’s legendary hockey player Abdul Waheed Khan who applied these tactics to help the Albiceleste to their first-ever World Cup triumph.
