My Chronic Illness Story - Living with Kidney Transplant, UC, and Glaucoma

Hi guys,
I was first diagnosed with kidney failure at the age of 3 years old with nephrotic syndrome and my primary cause was FSGS. I took so many different medications such as Prograf, myfortic, lisinopril, and prednisone. Eventually, around December 2012, I received a phone call from my Nephrologist explaining to me I had a kidney waiting for me. Next thing you know, I am on the way to getting a kidney transplant and out of school for 2 months.

All the medications I took such as Cyclosporine, Prograf, MyFortic, and more took a toll on my body causing me to gain weight as most of you call it "moon face" and I started to look very hairy as well. With medications come side effects as well. For me, taking Prednisone so long caused my vision to become poor, and developed Cataracts and Glaucoma which I had to get surgery for. I was diagnosed with Steroid-induced Glaucoma from then on. I take eye drops for Glaucoma such as Cosopt, Brimonindine, Rhopressa, and Latanoprost.

As for my Ulcerative Colitis that developed through food poisoning that I left too long and it causes my colon to become inflamed. I developed UC in 2019-2020 and as of now do Remicade infusion every 8 weeks to maintain my colon health.

My health is so far stable and I am looking to do the best I can with what I have. I enjoy working out as it helps release the negative thoughts of depression and anxiety. I do get nervous about the future, but only time will tell what I can do.
