This time we will explore the city of Hat Yai, the largest city in Southern Thailand!!
Hat Yai used to be a small village called Khok Samet Chun, until the Southern Railway was built there, making the area a major train hub. A Tha-Chinese man by the name of Niphat Chinnakorn (謝枢泗) invested heavily on the railway, and hired a bunch of fellow Chinese folks to help construct the railroad. The Chinese later decided to settle in the area, and help developed the city we now know as Hat Yai.
Although there is no official Chinatown here (what a shame), there are tons of features in Hat Yai that draws the connection between Thai and Chinese. There are also very fascinating Chinese Buddhist Temples as well!!
