STORYLINE
A group of Israelis taking shelter in a local school in Kiryat Shmona could not be evacuated on Wednesday as air raid sirens going off prevented them from repeatedly trying to board a bus.
Israeli soldiers were on hand to help the young and elderly onto the buses when the first air raid siren went off, causing everyone onboard to rush back out and into the school.
"We have no idea when the bombs are coming," said evacuation official Zeev Glidai. "Maybe at night, maybe in the evening, so it's not so simple."
People went into the basement of the building to wait.
When they ventured out again to try and board the bus for a second time, another air raid siren went off and they were rushed back into the building again.
A television camera crew had to take cover amid the noise of what, appeared to be, rockets hitting the ground in the proximity of the school.
Smoke could be seen rising from the hills surrounding the building just through the front entrance.
Kiryat Shmona is a city of approximately 22,000 people and around half have remained in the city since hostilities began on July 12.
Evacuations have been organised from the city for those residents wishing to leave.
Kiryat Shmona has often been the target of Hezbollah rockets.
