This week's challenge: A copyte needle nobby!
Today I'm cutting a risky Lightning Ridge half nobby that is missing the classic cap you’d normally expect. Instead, the surface is covered in copyte needles: fine strand-like inclusions that can sit shallow… or run deep into the heart of the gem. To give it the best chance, I cut with a fine wheel and take a slow, surgical approach. Every millimetre removed is a trade-off between cleaning out the needles and protecting the color bar. Despite the challenges, this nobby didn't disappoint me.
