UK Sends Military Support to Belgium After Suspected Russian Drone Incursions

Описание: Britain has deployed military personnel and anti-drone technology to Belgium after a series of suspected drone incursions disrupted both civilian and military airspace, forcing Brussels Airport to briefly suspend operations. The move comes at the request of Belgian defence officials, following multiple sightings of drones near strategic locations including airfields and military bases.

RAF teams are being joined by German support as NATO works to identify the source of the drone operations. While several Western intelligence officials suspect Russian involvement, both British and Belgian defence authorities stress that the origin has not yet been confirmed. The incident forms part of a broader pattern: Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Germany have also reported similar drone activity in recent weeks.

UK Armed Forces Chief Richard Knighton stated that the drones represent a potential form of hybrid warfare — operations that fall below the threshold of open conflict but can still cause serious disruption, sabotage critical infrastructure and test NATO’s response readiness.

The temporary shutdown of Brussels Airport affected around 3,000 passengers, with dozens of flights cancelled or diverted. European states are now reviewing airspace monitoring systems, counter-drone capabilities, and coordinated NATO response mechanisms to prevent further disruption.
