Описание: Ab 608 has a rather important history behind it. It was the first of 141 4-6-2 Pacific locomotives built for the New Zealand Railways that had the ability to produce 1 horsepower for 100lbs of the engine's weight, a feat it held until 1929. It was built in 1915 during World War 1 only a few months after the Gallipoli Campaign had started where ANZAC forces landed on the beaches and had only been in service for 2 months when that campaign ended. In 1925, it was named Passchendaele after the Belgium fields where 843 New Zealand men lost their lives in 1917. Withdrawn in 1967 in poor mechanical condition, it was donated to the New Zealand Railway and Locomotive Society. In 1993, Steam Inc in Wellington began restoration, which was completed in 2014, in time for WW1 commemorations in New Zealand. Here, it is seen on a leg of the 2014 Heartland Tour throughout the North Island from Hamilton to Tokoroa.
