Pedretti was born on March 23, 1995 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her father, Mike Pedretti was three-quarter Italian descent. Her mother was a dancer. While Pedretti doesn’t often speak about her personal life, you can catch snippets of what it was like. In a 2021 interview, she revealed she actually grew up in an emotionally abusive home.
At the age of six, a young Pedretti was diagnosed with ADHD– severe ADHD, to be exact.
The diagnosis played into Pedretti’s present hatred of labels and the stigma that follows them.
Skipping forward to her teen years, Pedretti was one of four students in Pennsbury High School, Fairless Hills’ drama club. After not getting a role in the school musical, Pedretti had a revelation that would change her life: she wanted to pursue drama professionally. She followed that passion and enrolled in the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama. By 2017, she walked out of those doors, victorious, holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting.
Not everyone was supportive of her journey. Her parents, while both artists themselves, supported her artistic journey, even if they did criticize her.
But out in the real world, Pedretti found herself immersed in auditions– and not finding that much success right away.
In a stroke of fate, just as her post-college money ran out, and on the brink of getting a day job, Mike Flanagan gave her a call for a role in a new horror series.
Growing up, Pedretti never liked horror. But she couldn’t turn down “The Haunting of Hill House,” a Netflix series that’s based on Shirley Jackson’s 1959 gothic horror novel.
Pedretti was to play Eleanor Crane Vance, the youngest sibling in the Crain family who struggles with the trauma of Hill House that has followed her from childhood and into the present day.
It’s for sure that she would have traumatized her younger self if she’d caught episode 8 when Nell’s rotting body jumped out at her sisters in one of the show’s biggest jump scares. She kind of did traumatize her older self as well. Director Mike Flanagan secretly told her to jump out earlier than her cue, so the horrified reactions of everyone involved are sincere.
It’s too bad Pedretti didn’t like horror. Because after that role, she rose to prominence as a modern “scream queen,” getting the role of Danielle "Dani" Clayton in 2020 in The Haunting of Bly Manor.
From there on out, while roles didn’t come flooding in, those that did struck gold. In 2019, at 6:00 a.m, Tarantino’s casting director knocked on her door and invited her to do a reading for a mysterious project. Little did she know that those script pages were for a movie co-starring Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio, a movie that would be nominated for an Academy Award.
Believe it or not, but this time was the first time she’s gotten that far in a film audition.
Pedretti landed the role of Lulu, one of Charles Manson’s following. The rest of her experience she described as surreal. She “failed so miserably” when she met Tarantino for the first time. She then went on to be starstruck when she met and saw Leonardo DiCaprio for the first time when she got to ride a horse next to him.
Pedretti often speaks about not being able to shake off being star-struck numerous times. She told Cosmopolitan that upon seeing Jon Hamm at a restaurant table, she walked into a wall.
Just goes to show you that life sometimes goes in a full circle, before she landed playing Love Quinn in 2019, Pedretti actually auditioned for the role of Joe Goldberg’s season one obsession, Guinevere Beck, back in the first season. It was, in fact, one of her very first callbacks.
Now, she’s grateful she didn’t get it. Instead, she got the Haunting of Hill House, the role went to Elizabeth Lail, and, what do you know, she ended up with the fan-favorite Love Quinn in season two.
Victoria Pedretti is a pretty outspoken person. Holding back no shots, she told Glamour that the idea that people actually want “to be with the psychopath and the murderer is a joke.”
She further went on to speak about Joe, seeing that the second he sees Love as a human being instead of just an idea he’s in love with, he’ll fall out of said love…Well, spoiler ahead, but she wasn’t wrong!
