Deep down I will always wish I had seen Michael Bay's third TMNT movie, I didn't dislike that version at all, however, I think it was worth a reboot with a totally different movie than usual.
In this reimagining of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles we see the characters acting like real teenagers while learning to be heroes. With such a beautiful animation style that reminds me of Spiderman Across The Spiderverse but without looking like a comic in motion, rather they look like notebook drawings with abrupt lines and exaggerated designs but that look quite cool in sight having a very urban superhero style. marked and it seems that this movie takes place in the same universe as Across The Spiderverse, but nothing to do.
I thought the change in the narrative of this film was very cool compared to the previous series and films since Mutant Mayhem bets more on comedy and irreverent humor mixed with a good dose of action and many, many references to pop culture. what makes this movie an enjoyable product, the characters are very memorable, from Leo, Raphael, Donatello and Mickey, these characters maintain a perfect balance between respecting the essence of the classic turtles but having their own identity for this movie and that is something that makes them a unique adaptation, we also have Splinter, April O'Neal and Superfly as the main villain who was my favorite character in the whole movie, I really liked that Shredder was not the villain again at least in the first movie since apparently he will make his appearance in the next movie that I hope will arrive soon.
I wish we would have had the conclusion of the Michael Bay saga, but still I think that Mutant Mayhem was a great success and I am happy that more producers are encouraged to break out of the conventional animation mold and experiment with different techniques, #TMNTMovie is the movie that you must see to appreciate even more what started Into The Spiderverse and that is now changing the world of animation.
TMNT: Mutant Mayhem is everything I expected and more, as a big fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I am very happy with the result, it shows that Seth Rogen knows his product and this movie is proof that there are still good stories .
