Trained in both Western oil painting and Chinese brush painting, Xin Li is an Australian animator who specialises in painting onto glass, frame by frame. This unique collaboration, brings Sophie Koh (musician/songwriter) and Xin Li (animator) together, supported by Creative Victoria. Both Sophie and Xin are Australian, from Melbourne.

"A song about HOMECOMING, HOPE, YEARNING, DUTY, MOTHER and CHILD. 18 months in the making, Xin diligently HAND PAINTED this video, screen by screen, at this studio in Melbourne. At its infancy, Xin and I chatted a lot about our own personal journeys of being Chinese Australians and our complex paths that led us here. So different but yet the same. I was reading a lot of translated poetry by early Chinese women poets, by courtesans, palace women and priestesses, many of whom were emotionally and intellectually isolated. I had a strong visual of me, walking through bare open desert, a monochrome scene of sweeping clouds, in search of home." This collaboration, bringing these sonic images to life, was truly special."
