Bach’s Ich ruf zu dir, Herr Jesus Christ, BWV 639, is one of his most intimate and profoundly expressive chorale preludes. Originally composed for organ as part of the Orgelbüchlein, it is a heartfelt prayer in music, its melody unfolding with quiet supplication above a gently pulsating accompaniment.

In his transcription, Busoni transforms this delicate organ work into a deeply personal piano piece, preserving its meditative stillness while enriching its sonorities. The chorale melody, played with a singing, almost vocal quality, emerges over the steady motion of inner voices, creating an atmosphere of warmth and solemn devotion.
