This is an epic expedition into rugged South Westland Mid-Winter 2020.
We spent a week of adventure looking for a trophy Bull Tahr, but we mainly found hard lessons. This is our first Fly-In mission and we defiantly learnt a lot, but ultimately had an awesome and humbling experience. These animals are without doubt the "Kings of the Mountain "
Key Lessons learnt:
1, Helicopter gear prep - Small, Soft, Light. Fit more into less space.
2, Hunt hard, hunt early - make the most of the early opportunities, the weather and animal habits are unpredictable in the alps. we relied on "tomorrow" too much.
3, No Excuses - prep all gear well so nothing lets you down on the hill, Rifle / ammo / scope zero / over night gear (link in with point 2). Undoubtable reliability!
4, Food storage.....Every DOC Hut has its resident tribe of possums.
