STAHR Rocket Soars to 21 km: A Triumph of Perseverance

On October 24, after more than three years of relentless effort, STAHR, our hybrid rocket, finally soared to an impressive apogee of 21 km at Esrange Space Center, Sweden. This launch was a significant milestone in student-led aerospace, showcasing our technical capabilities and resilience.

The road to lift-off was challenging. The two-week launch campaign faced unexpected hurdles that tested our limits and shrank our launch window dramatically. Ultimately, we succeeded at the final moment, albeit accepting reduced engine performance.

A critical avionics malfunction led, after close consultation with the supportive DLR team, to removing the recovery system entirely—sacrificing controlled descent and years of dedicated sub-team work, making launch day bittersweet.

Nevertheless, STAHR performed remarkably, validating our research and dedication. The collected flight data provides valuable insights for future missions.

Thanks to everyone in Aachen, our dedicated launch campaign team, and especially the DLR and SSC teams in Sweden!
