Sinn Féin TD Matt Carthy raised the issue of the bombings at Belturbet, Co Cavan; Clones, Co Monaghan & Pettigo, Co Donegal on 28th December 1972 in the Dáil coming up to the 50th anniversary of the explosions.
The Belturbet bomb claimed the lives of two teenagers, Geraldine O’Reilly and Patrick Stanley.
A local man, Paddy McCabe died while assisting the clear-up of the Clones bomb. This speech by Matt Carthy was the first time that his name was recorded as a victim of the bomb in the Dáil.
Deputy Carthy said that it is widely believed that the UVF in conjunction with British state agents were responsible for the attacks.
