NHS England describes an SMR as an evidence-based and comprehensive review of a patient’s medication, considering all aspects of their health. In a structured medication review, clinicians and patients should work as equal partners to understand the balance between the benefits and risks of and alternatives to taking medicines. The shared decision-making conversation should be led by the patient’s individual needs, preferences and circumstances.
This video is for patients who take multiple medications and may require an SMR to show them what to expect and encourage them to articulate their needs, preferences and circumstances as part of the shared decision-making process.
