Why buy a new desk chair when I can forage one from an abandoned office space? But before my bottom was going anywhere near it this mouldy old chair needed the scrub of its life. The metal frame and mechanism- the hardware - were in surprisingly good shape and only needed a clean, polish and oiling. But the foam and fabric - the software - needed to be completely replaced if I wanted to be able to sit on this chair without the need of a nose-peg.

5:20 repairing seat base (fixing previous bad repair)
6:27 taking the metal frame apart
7:50 cleaning the aluminium chair base (sanding and polishing)
10:02 cleaning and oiling the chair mechanism
10:50 cleaning the chair castors
12:57 repairing the plastic strut cover
14:11 reassembling the metal frame
15:05 replacing the cushion foam
16:22 shaping the new foam to match the original (very messy process)
17:16 reupholstering the seat cushions with recycled fabric
