What Does the Bible Say About Complacency?

When it comes down to it, complacency is just really proud laziness. Complacency creeps in when we’ve become content with ourselves or how awesome our lives are without any real reason to be.
In the opening chapter of Proverbs, it says, “For the apostasy of the inexperienced will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them.”
Later, in Proverbs chapter six, the author says, “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the arms to rest, and your poverty will come like a robber, your need, like a bandit.”
The concept of complacency isn’t confined to Proverbs. In Revelation 3, God says, “For you say, ‘I am rich; I have become wealthy and need nothing,’ and you don’t realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked.” Complacency is believing we thrive in our own filth, instead of relying on God our father and provider of all things. That’s 1 Peter.
