The Palestine Song (or Crusader song) by the medieval minstrel Walther von der Vogelweide (ca. 1170-1230), in an arrangement for female choir (SA) and piano by Taco Sorgdrager.
Only the first verse of the original lyrics is used, but a second verse in modern German is added, written by Taco Sorgdrager.
The music is preceded by a short story written and narrated (in Dutch) by Taco Sorgdrager, exactly as it took place during the "Summer Evening Concert" of the Morgana Chamber choir, on July 6, 2013, in the "Bosbeskapel" (Blueberry Chapel) in The Hague, where this recording was made. To skip the story: see the time stamps above.

English translation of the short story preceding the music:
"They had all come to the lake for swimming. Without hesitation they'd jumped off the wooden jetty into the water. Bawling and splashing now, left and right. Just one boy still stood on the edge, the wood warm beneath his soles, while he looked into the glints of sunlight in the water. For a moment he seemed to get ready for a dive, but he unfolded the forward bending movement of his upper body into an easy leaning position, hands resting just above the knees, staring attentively into the water. The sun gently singed his back and crown, slow running drops of sweat began to itch in his hair. The cold water's icy grip would intolerably shatter the easy beating of his heart, that still lay languidly thumb sucking in his chest like a big baby. They shouted his name. Why was he thus called? It was only a matter of shifting from one element into the other. From the dry, hot air to the wet, cold water. That was all. The bawling had fallen silent. They all looked at him. He dove. Even this time he wouldn't die."

The Morgana Chamber Choir existed between 2007 and 2016. The domain name for the choirs website was dropped in 2018. Unfortunately some very bad people have re-registered the domain name: we have nothing to do with what is on it now. So don't visit, and don't send e-mails to the choirs domain name, because whoever you will reach with that: it won't be us!
