It was the dawn of the automatic chronograph and a few well known watchmakers were racing to be the first company to bring an automatic chronograph to market. The Watchmaker that achieved this first was Seiko with their release of the 6139 movement in the japanese market in May of 1969.

There are so many forms of watch complication that are being manufactured today. One of the most popular among Watch Enthusiasts and just casual watch fans alike is the Chronograph. Now the manual wind Chronograph has been around for over a century and there are many affordable options in production today. The Automatic Chronograph is a different story though.

The Single Sub-dial Seiko 6139 or the dual Sub-dial 6138 are among the most affordable Vintage options available today. Sure there are models that get a bit pricey due to there historical significance, but compared to their Swiss counterparts they can still be seen as a deal. I personally haven't purchased a Vintage Chronograph yet but I'm sure I will eventually add one to my collection. Finding the right one for you is the challenge. Especially if you are on a budget, and that's where Seiko comes in.
