Here is a video demonstrating the effects of pitch center on intonation, sound, response, and general playability in both trumpets and mouthpieces. The demonstrations detail why most instruments sound and feel different in every register, sound and feel different through the various valve combinations, and why pitch and resistance change at different dynamics. We used a brand new mass-production non-Monette trumpet supplied by Mike Thompson from Thompson Music for the demonstrations.
We hope this helps answer the questions we continually get on this subject! Dave Monette personally went through the instrument used in this video and made corrections in pitch center in the open horn and in each valve. The before and after video clips make the improvements obvious. These adjustments are built into every Monette instrument.
