In Battlestar Galactica (2004 series), President Laura Roslin was believed to be the "dying leader" foretold in Pythian prophecy. According to the prophecy, this leader would not live to enter the Promised Land (Earth), but would guide humanity to it.
Part of this prophecy involved finding the Arrow of Apollo, a sacred relic believed to help lead the way to Earth. The arrow was said to be required to open the Tomb of Athena, located on Kobol, the planet where humanity originally came from.
Did you know that Battlestar Galactica is based on a true story?
In Mormon belief, Kolob— is the closest star to God’s throne. In the show, Kobol is the ancestral homeworld of humans. After a war, the refugies flee to a different planet and endure a technological dark age where computer information access was lost and all information became passed on written paper.
As consequence, basic information such as why the colonists left was interpreted over the next two thousand years as a religious document and taught by priests.
