Quick review.
Roksan is a fairly small British HI FI manufacturer that make a range of over priced components that are generally unreliable and costly to repair. Their quotes for repairing components are usually extortionate. Their gear generally uses good quality components however a CD player I replaced a belt in recently was using jamicon capacitors, not the best quality components like Rubicon ect.
My thoughts on this tuner:-
RF performance is fairly good, it seems to be stable once tuned in, with no sign of drift. Sensitivity is average, not being able to produce a quiet stereo reception on Radio 3 from Wrotham despite other tuners like the Pioneer f90/f91 and Revox B160 doing so. Bare in mind this tuner (like many others) needed calibration to align the incoming signal to what is shown on the display.
Sound quality is great , and close to my benchmark Revox B160. It has a deep extended bass and wide stereo soundstage.
Build quality is generally very good, and the components fitted in this example are all good quality stuff. The Transformer is as big as some I have seen in 30W amplifiers, and the chassis is made of thick grade steel making this unit heavy for a tuner.
To be honest the Quad FM4 with the capacitor mods sounds just as good as this, it may even be more sensitive and are available on Ebay for under £100 . These Roksan's are going for nearly twice that at present.
