Hello everyone and welcome to a new video!
I noticed while I was sewing my last skirt that I often don't have the time or scope to really 'show' how to do things in depth in those making of videos. So I thought I'd share a little bit more in-depth of these commonly used skills for historical costuming - and today, it's pockets! Pockets are an essential in my opinion. I'm a hoarder and a cluttered person, there's always something in my pockets and too much in my bag. And pockets are historical! If you look, you can find traces of them all over, from garments to historical plates and even etiquette books.
For this video, I am making an 1890s/early Edwardian (non-trumpet) skirt, based on the typical late Victorian pattern I always use. There's more about the project in this video: • Can Elastic Be Historical? | Sewing a Comf... Therefore, I used a pattern and instructions based on a diagram from an 1890s historical book. However, I am a true believer that if you want to wear historically inspired clothes for day-to-day, you should absolutely customise them to work for you! So add two pockets, three, however many you like!
If you have any questions, please ask down below - and I'll be posting a PDF on my Patreon of three pocket patterns I've used in my historical costuming (available to all Patreons and in the shop), if you'd rather not bother drafting them :)
