While looking through my folder of tiaras and crowns, I realized there were not only an obscene number of aquamarine tiaras, but that quite a few of them were made by Cartier. They seem to have had a deep love for the watery blue stones, making tiaras for royals and just regular old rich people alike.
Featured here are 4 of my favorites, in chronological order. The Hesketh Aquamarine Tiara from 1910, which belonged to Lady Hesketh, a British journalist, politician, and what Wikipedia calls an "educationalist." The whimsical aigrette belonging to Russian Princess Olga Paley, a fascinating woman who seemed to leave a trail of scandals in her wake, made in 1912. An absolute stunner of an art deco tiara, made for no one in particular (though she surely was one lucky lady), made in 1937. The unusual and beautiful Aquamarine Pineflower Tiara, made for Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in 1938, and eventually altered and shortened by Princess Anne.
All 4 of these represent the ethereal, sparkling beauty of both Cartier designs, and heaps and heaps of top quality aquamarines glowing with their watery light.
