The foundation of a 462m Lakhta Center is a massive RC box mounted on 264 piles up to 82m deep each. Prior to the foundation installation a pit 17m deep is excavated. Along the perimeter the future foundation is enveloped by a diaphragm wall, a RC regular pentagon.
This d-wall prevents from soil collapsing and underground water ingress. As the pit is excavated it is exposed to a high lateral pressure. To shore the d-wall a disk system is installed comprising 4 RC disks on supports.
