Seth Brooks Binzer, widely known by his stage name Shifty Shellshock, was an American rapper and singer-songwriter born on August 23, 1974. He rose to fame as a cofounder of the rap rock band Crazy Town, best known for their global hit song "Butterfly." However, Binzer’s career was often overshadowed by his struggles with addiction, which led to his appearance on reality television shows like Celebrity Rehab and Sober House. Despite his efforts at recovery, he continued to battle substance abuse throughout his life and died from an accidental overdose on June 24, 2024.
Binzer’s journey in music began in 1992 when he met Bret Mazur, who would later become his bandmate in Crazy Town. The two started collaborating under the name The Brimstone Sluggers before officially forming Crazy Town in 1999. The band gained immense success in 2000 with the release of their debut album The Gift of Game. The album's lead single, "Butterfly," became a massive hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100 and charts in several other countries. The song’s success propelled the album's sales to over 1.5 million copies.
However, their subsequent album, Darkhorse (2002), was a commercial disappointment, leading to the band's breakup shortly afterward. Crazy Town reunited in 2007, and by 2015, they released their third album, The Brimstone Sluggers.
