TransPennine Express Train Fleet/Rolling Stock. TransPennine Express is a train operating company in Northern England and Southern Scotland operating services on the South TransPennine from Liverpool to Cleethorpes via Manchester and Sheffield, North TransPennine from Liverpool and Manchester to Hull, Scarborough, Middlesbrough, Newcastle and Edinburgh via Leeds and York and the West Coast route from Manchester and Liverpool to Glasgow and Edinburgh. This video shows the current train fleet (January 2023) along with the future rolling stock and past rolling stock for this operator.
TPE currently operates 4 main classes of train with the diesel 3 carriage class 185 Desiro operating services across the south and north TransPennine routes, the class 185 previously operated with First TransPennine Express and are the oldest trains currently in operation with TPE. These trains have standard class 2+2 seating and first class 2+1 seating.
TPE ordered 3 new classes of train named Nova 1, Nova 2 and Nova 3 to increase capacity and replace some of their previous trains. All 3 Nova trains have 5 carriages with 4 standard and 1 first class carriage with standard seating being 2+2 and first class 2+1.
The class 802/2 are a bi mode version of the intercity express trains that operate with GWR, LNER, Hull Trains and Lumo. These are 5 carriages and operate on the Liverpool Lime Street to Newcastle and Newcastle to Edinburgh services.
The class 397 CAF Civity are electric trains for the WCML services from Manchester Airport to Edinburgh and Glasgow Central as well as the Liverpool Lime Street to Glasgow Central services.
The loco hauled sets are formed of a class 68 locomotive along with 4 Mark 5A carriages and 1 Mark 5A Driving Trailer carriage.
Previously TPE operated 2 carriage class 170/3 Turbostar which operated mainly on the Manchester Piccadilly to Hull route which us now class 185 operated. These trains were converted to class 168 and moved to Chiltern Railways.
TPE also operated 4 carriage class 350.4 Desiro on the WCML route which the class 397 replaced. These trains moved to London Northwestern Railway which is part of West Midlands Trains.
The train fleet information is correct as of January 2023 and future train fleet dates are based for the planned introduction for passenger services. Past Train Fleet is based on when the current TransPennine Express franchise has been in operation.
