Personal Philosophy of Nursing | Why I Started YouTube

Описание: In this video, I express how my career has impacted my personal philosophy of nursing, and encouraged me to create a YouTube channel. As I primarily work with the geriatric population, I see many patients with cognitive decline or experience depressive symptoms. Reminiscing has shown to promote psychological health and cognitive benefits (Lin & Yen, 2018).

My philosophy of nursing focuses on the principle of autonomy and the caring relationship between the nurse and client. The principle of of autonomy gives the patient the right to make their own informed health care decisions based on their personal values and beliefs (Keatings & Adams, 2018). In the video, I share a past experience where I let my own assumptions and biases get in the way of understanding this principle.

Another reason why I chose a career in nursing is because I care. I review what caring means and why it is important in the health care setting with an example from my practice. Sometimes a simple act of caring, reminiscing, and sharing memories about the past, can spark joy and laughter in someone's day.
