In this video I summarize NEAT: Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis. I highlight the major themes surrounding NEAT and the role that NEAT plays in the TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) equation. I explain why NEAT is important and why we should all strive to increase our NEAT on a day-to-day basis. My goal is for the viewer to come away with a strong understanding of Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis and realize the importance of the topic for overall health improvements and increases in quality of life.
Physical activity is perhaps the strongest predictor of death, disability, and disease. Physical activity aids in the prevention of an array of chronic diseases including heart disease, the #1 cause of death, accounting for more loss of life than any other chronic disease. Furthermore the current number of individuals who are classified as overweight and obese has reached unprecedented levels. The rate at which both are annually increasing is outright alarming and substantial. The good news is, physical activity and exercise aid in both the primary prevention and the secondary prevention of chronic disease.
I emphasize the importance of increasing NEAT on a day-to-day basis to promote health, assist in the prevention of weight gain, and improve the quality of your life!!!
