San Francisco teachers strike for first time in nearly 50 years, closing schools citywide

Описание: Teachers in San Francisco have launched their first strike in nearly 50 years, shutting all 120 district schools and forcing roughly 50,000 students into remote learning. The United Educators of San Francisco is demanding fully funded healthcare and salary increases of 9 to 14 percent. The district, facing a $100m deficit and under state oversight, has offered a 6 percent pay rise and $24,000 healthcare benefit, but teachers rejected the proposal. Meeting the union's demands would cost an additional $92m.
