There are such a beautiful variety of dune scenes to paint, so I hope this video will help get you started. In this gouache tutorial I share how I think about color and light, as well as layering the foreground to achieve depth in the sand dune and grasses.
I recommend you hunt down some references and try these techniques on your own a few times before going out to paint from life.

I have been exploring our new area in the Northeast of Scotland's coast, and have found a lot of beautiful coastlines to paint. I especially love the area between Spey Bay and Gardenstown. There are lots of huge cliffs, soft sand beaches, and plenty of beautiful dune grasses.
