Encroachments have once again taken over roads, footpaths, and marketplaces across the city, causing serious inconvenience to the public. Despite the launch of a much-publicized grand operation by authorities to clear illegal structures, the situation on the ground tells a different story. Unauthorized stalls, carts, and temporary constructions are visible everywhere, blocking pedestrian pathways and narrowing roads.

Residents complain that walking on footpaths has become nearly impossible, forcing pedestrians onto busy roads and increasing the risk of accidents. Shopkeepers and encroachers, backed by what locals describe as an “encroachment mafia,” appear to have resumed operations soon after the crackdown, making the official drive seem ineffective.

Citizens are questioning how a large-scale operation failed to bring lasting results and why enforcement agencies are unable to control illegal occupations of public spaces. The unchecked return of encroachments has raised concerns about weak governance, lack of monitoring, and possible collusion, with growing demands for a sustainable and corruption-free solution to reclaim public spaces.
