On March 16, 2010 Daryl Haerther sat down and told of his experiences in World War II. Daryl, born and raised on a farm outside Story City, Iowa, served in Company A, 383rd Infantry Regiment, 96th Infantry Division (the "Dead Eyes") of the U.S. Army. He talks in particular about his involvement in the Battle of Okinawa. He was on the front lines of this island battle for approx. 2 months before getting wounded. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Daryl was on the frontlines for two months before being wounded and taken off ten days before the end of the battle.
