Léo Diniz is what you might call a dancing jack of all trades. He started his apprenticeship in traditional & ballroom dancing in 2005, coached by Fatima Ramos at the 7&8 Dancing School in Belo Horizonte. It included Tango, Bolero, Soltinho, Salsa, Waltz, Bachata and Lindy Hop. He also has knowledge of Ballet, Hip Hop and Tap Dance, but most of all he is a specialist in Samba de Gafieira, Zouk and… Forró.
In 2013, he joined Grupo Experimental Mimulus, where he danced until 2015, representing readings of well-known shows from the company.
His first encounter with FORRÓ was in 1998 and can be described as love at first sight. He resided in Belo Horizonte, a city known for excellent Forró clubs, notorious dancers, celebrated bands and daily Forró availability. As he was a frequent participant in Forró nights, he developed his dancing skills in the most natural way: by dancing itself.
Living in the Forró strongholds Dunas de Itaúnas and Caraíva was key to his learning and his experience kept on growing with his travels.
Rovena has been into dancing since she was a little girl. She started dancing Jazz and „Dança Gaúcha“ when she was 8 years old and got to know Forró on her regular travels to the northeast of Brazil, where her father lives. When she moved there with 12 years of age, she finally fell in love with it and started learning her steps at the Escola de Dança F&B.
Since 2005, she lives in Switzerland and has been traveling to London whenever she could to soak up more Forró. In 2013, when Forró started gaining popularity in Switzerland, she started dancing more regularly, improving her skills in her dancing and teaching partnership with Atila Alves, and taking part in many festivals and workshops. But she wanted to dig deeper: in 2015, she spent three months in Brazil, serving apprenticeships in Belo Horizonte with Cesar Almeida, Lucas Vidoto and Valmir Coelho of Pé Descalço, her mentor Hugo Silva and Ardyson Carvalho in Itaúnas.
Rovena is dedicated to impart her passion for dancing and Forró in particular not only through dancing itself, but by actively organizing and promoting diverse cultural events with the group Forró Vem Vem.
When Rovena & Leo met in 2015 in Belo Horizonte, they found to be a perfect match as a dancing couple and decided to spread their knowledge and passion together, so Léo came all the way to Europe where they are currently teaching workshops and courses in and around Switzerland. And of course they will be doing the same at Forró ao Pé da Serra!
