So Much Progress This Week… But News About Alfie Wasn’t What We Were Hoping For 💔Ep 80

Описание: This week on our off-grid renovation project in rural Portugal, we make some big progress on the land around our 300-year-old granite farmhouse in the Serra da Estrela mountains.

We continue clearing the land down to the stream, tackling more broom, brambles and overgrown areas as we slowly reclaim parts of the property. The plan was to strim much more of it, but unfortunately our strimmer kept playing up, which slowed things down a little. Despite that, we did manage to strim the mini vineyard and the vegetable growing area, preparing the ground so we can soon rotovate and start planting for the season ahead.

Something a little unexpected also happened this week — the annual TT motocross event was routed straight past our house. Throughout the day we watched as motocross bikes, quads and 4x4 vehicles passed along the track outside our farm, bringing a lot of noise and excitement to our normally peaceful valley.

We also started building a new animal house here on the farm. The structure is now 90% built, painted and roofed, and it’s all in preparation for welcoming a couple of new additions to our little farm family very soon.

Mandy also spent her birthday working for a couple of days helping a lovely local couple. They very kindly surprised her with a birthday card and gift, and even gifted us a metal planter, which will be perfect for our vegetable garden.

With fire season approaching in Portugal, we’ve also started clearing a very dense patch of Spanish broom next to the chicken area. The land technically isn’t ours, but it hasn’t been maintained and having that much dry fuel so close to the animals and buildings made us uncomfortable. So little by little we’ve started reducing the fire risk ourselves, clearing the area bit by bit.

And finally, after weeks of searching and hoping, we share an update about Alfie… but sadly it’s not the news we were hoping for.
