Valve Amplifier Study 003: Dansette Viva & Popular, UY85 & UL84 Single Ended Gramophone Amp Unit

Описание: This is a very simple circuit which is an AC only design, very common for a lot of gramophone units from the late 1950s to early 1960s.

These should be upgraded with mains isolating transformers.

You really need a capacitor on the cathode as the gain is so low without it. You already need a very high output cartridge which has almost no compliance at all, sounds dreadful. Destroys records. With this kind of motor feeding the heaters the motor also has to run continually and tends to run quite hot because of the extra load. All in all a really crappy record player. I remember them far to well.

Michael Beeny but could very well sound great if a blues harmonica played through an old and cheap at the time, crystal mic. In that regard, it would be better without the negative feedback. I agree, awful electronically but sounds lovely and raucous for creating music with.

We will be looking at this amplifier in greater detail when we cover basic theory in the near future.
