I got the sweetest card in the mail the other day from my best friend from elementary school. What a welcome surprise it was. What is never a welcome surprise is opening your mailbox to see a letter from a taxing authority like the IRS or state department of revenue.

This is no love letter. We know that just the sight of a notice can really make your skin crawl. So we have a rapid response promise in our office that all notices get responded to by the next business day.

To get the process started, we ask clients to get us a copy of the complete notice – sometimes they drive it over, or fax it. It can be left in our secure mailbox. Email is probably the most common way a notice arrives, but clients have also snapped a picture of it on their kitchen counter and texted it over.

Once a notice has been responded to, we then follow up with the action required by the notice. If we sent a response and the client gets another notice, we send another copy of the response. Sure it may have crossed in the mail, but it is better to be safe than sorry in our minds.

When possible we will get a power of attorney from our client, so we can look in to the matter with the agency directly, getting a faster resolution.

Sometimes the wheels are slow to move but we make sure there is progress where progress can be made. If you get a notice, send it to us as soon as you get it.
