January 2026 was expected to be another challenging month for Boeing. Instead, the company delivered 46 aircraft — more than double Airbus’ 19 deliveries — marking its strongest January performance in over a decade. Driven largely by 737 MAX deliveries and key widebody handovers, Boeing opened the year with momentum that caught analysts and competitors off guard.
The real surprise came from the order book. Boeing recorded 103 net new orders in January, including major commitments from Aviation Capital Group for 50 737 MAX jets and Delta Air Lines for 30 787-10 Dreamliners. With production stabilizing, regulatory relationships improving, and airline confidence returning, the competitive balance between Boeing and Airbus may be entering a new phase in 2026.
