Director Tyler-James, widely believed to be a house pseudonym used by the prolific stable of low-budget British filmmakers Rhys Frake-Waterfield and Scott Jeffrey (best known of recent as the people behind Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood And Honey), brings a starkly modern, grit-slicked sensibility to the creature feature subgenre with The Loch Ness Horror. Released during a renaissance of independent British "B-movies" that reimagine classic icons as relentless killing machines, this film marks a definitive shift in the cinematic treatment of Nessie, transforming her from a shy lake-dweller into an apex predator of the high seas.

The film avoids the trap of being a mere mockbuster by attempting a tonal hybrid of Alien and The Meg, emphasizing shadows and tension over constant CGI spectacle. Despite its limited resources, the production manages a surprisingly evocative atmosphere, trading the murky green waters of the Highlands for the unforgiving gray of the open ocean. This change in geography serves a practical purpose, allowing the creature more "room" to operate as a global threat, though purists might argue it strips the legend of its regional identity.

It is, however, not the first time a Loch Ness Monster film doesn’t actually take place at Loch Ness. Beyond Loch Ness (2008) took place in Canada.

Furthermore, the film is notable for its "mini-beast" subplot, where the creature's offspring infiltrate the ship—a sequence that pays direct, unabashed homage to the chest-bursting mechanics of Ridley Scott’s 1979 masterpiece.
