Something was lost (beauty, precision, glance-ability, timelessness) when we ditched analog chess clocks due to new modern timing methods (increments, delays, overtime periods etc.) Tempest provides an interesting anecdote for those seeking an analog traditional experience but with modern time controls. Its "Adaptive Analog" mode uses as much of the 360° clock face as possible to 'fan out' the actual time you have left.
So: if you are playing blitz, you will see (in this video for example), the clock face uses the equivalent of "5 hours" worth of the circle to fan out your 5 minutes. Making it really easy to see the difference between 4min 30sec for player one and 5 minutes for player 2 for example (any of us who play with analog chess clocks know that difference is too minuscule to see on a regular chess clock!).
Similarly if you are playing tournament time controls, the clock will do move counting and honor up to 3 periods of championship time. At which point if you have 2 hours on your clock, the analog face adapts to display that time as easy to read as possible. Note also that the numbers count down (clockwise) not up (which makes more sense than traditional clocks if you think about it)... eg. you have 1 minute left, not 11.
Analog mode can do everything digital mode can do: straight time, increments, delays, byoyomi, scrabble overtime, 3 period chess tournaments, and is optionally augmented by vocal countdown (so common in go tournaments but fun for a change in chess too), available in 8 beautiful languages.
