‎India has announced that Mongolia’s first-ever oil refinery, funded through a $1.7 billion Indian Line of Credit, will begin operations by 2028.
‎Located in Dornogobi province, this refinery marks India’s largest overseas development project and a major milestone in India–Mongolia relations, which celebrate 70 years of diplomatic ties this year.

‎According to MEA Secretary (East) P. Kumaran, almost all civil works are complete, and refinery equipment is being manufactured in India. Despite earlier delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and harsh winters reaching -35°C, the project is now back on track.
‎
‎This refinery will help Mongolia reduce its dependence on fuel imports, strengthen its energy security, and further cement India’s role in regional development.
